Andrés Osorio, an economist with an MPA in Economic Policy Management from Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs, SIPA, MPA-EPM’18, has been appointed director of the recently created Office of Productivity and National Entrepreneurship (OPEN). The entity is part of the Ministry of Economy, Development and Tourism and has a presidential mandate to design and execute measures to increase productivity in the country and, at the same time, to reduce barriers to entrepreneurship and competitiveness.

The office led by Osorio is in charge of implementing the Government's Productivity Agenda launched by Chile’s President Sebastián Piñera in early August. Based on its work and research, the Ministry of Economy sent a draft bill on Productivity and Entrepreneurship to Congress. In addition, the OPEN team has promoted several regulatory reforms and is currently reviewing the methodology of the Productivity Reports, which would be included in each new bill discussed by Congress.

Andrés Osorio also has an MA in Economics from Universidad Católica, where he taught several courses on macroeconomics. Prior to his appointment to the position at OPEN, he worked as an economic researcher and consultant.
