SPS’s Safier Reviews Post-Coronavirus Labor Market with AmCham Chile

August 06, 2020

Steve Safier, Human Capital Management Interim Academic Director at Columbia’s School of Professional Studies (SPS), was a keynote speaker at the "Companies' Social and Labor Agenda: New Scenarios Post-Pandemic" virtual conference held end-July by the Chilean-American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham Chile).

During his presentation "Changes in the Post-Coronavirus Labor Market: How to be Prepared for the Work of the Future," Safier spoke about how to help people leverage their skills and meet job expectations while also thinking outside of their "functional silos" and focusing on customer needs.

"One of the most fundamental questions in business is how to strike the optimal balance between providing structure for employees versus promoting flexibility in how jobs are done. This enables people to innovate and contribute while growing in ways that suit them and the business,” he said. “The challenges presented in the 'COVID-19 world' raise the stakes for getting this right, and afford opportunities for people to work in new and rewarding ways."
