In conjunction with Columbia’s Center for Undergraduate Global Engagement and Columbia Global Centers | Tunis, the Amman Center held the ninth annual Arabic language program in June 2019. The nine-week intensive summer program offered a multi-faceted introduction to the languages, culture, and history of the Middle East. Students spent four weeks in Amman learning Arabic and examining the interrelatedness of the Mashrek and Maghreb dialects through various disciplines, while practicing their language skills. Students were also immersed in various cultural experiences including cinema, arts, music and architecture.

The second half of the program is currently underway in Tunis, where students continue to study Arabic and learn the Maghrebi Darija.
