University Chaplain Jewelnel Davis and Kraft Global Fellows Visited China and Columbia Global Centers | Beijing

From May 19 to 28, 2018, Columbia Global Centers | Beijing collaborating with the Office of the University Chaplain hosted University Chaplain Jewelnel Davis and a delegation of Kraft Global Fellows of Columbia University for their program in China. 

Chaplain Davis and Kraft Global Fellows had meetings with leaders, scholars, and student representatives from various universities and faith communities, including Yenching Academy of Peking University, the Institute for the Study of Buddhism and Religious Theory at Renmin University of China, the Museum of Ethnic Cultures at Minzu University of China, the China Tibetology Research Center, and Beijing Parish Major Academy. The Kraft Fellows also had visited Tianjin to experience its splendid historical heritage and natural resources.

On May 25, Chaplain Davis and Kraft Fellows attended a reception at the Beijing Center, sharing their interfaith and cross-cultural experience in Beijing and their observations and perspectives of China with members of the Columbia community.

The Kraft Global Fellows Program is an initiative of the Kraft Family Fund for Intercultural and Interfaith Awareness and the Office of the University Chaplain. The 2018 Kraft Global Fellows research trip to Beijing, China and the Beijing Center focuses on the religions, cultures, and communities of Beijing. The trip aims to provide an opportunity for Columbia University students to add a global perspective to their Columbia University academic experience by utilizing the resources of the Columbia Global Centers and to explore relevant topics such as multifaith interconnectivity and issues of diversity in Beijing.
