Vice Provost Soulaymane Kachani speaks about Columbia’s approach to teaching and learning in a digital age

On October 27, Columbia Global Centers | Beijing hosted a public lecture featuring Professor Soulaymane Kachani, Vice Provost for Teaching and Learning and Senior Vice Dean of Columbia University's School of Engineering and Applied Science.

In his presentation, Professor Kachani introduced Columbia’s strategies to support excellence and innovation in teaching and learning for professional development, curricular enhancement, and academic support through programs, services, and resources of the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL). Understanding teaching as a critical practice and the importance of learner-centered pedagogy, Professor Kachani said that the CTL is supporting purposeful use of new media and emerging technologies in the classroom and online to foster the success of members of the Columbia community.

During the Q&A session, Professor Kachani mentioned that the CTL will continue to enhance its online courses to provide lifelong learning opportunities for Columbia alumni and learners around the world. He also answered questions regarding application process and requirements to apply to SEAS graduate programs.

More than 60 people attended the event, and more than 65,000 people watched the event online through the Beijing Center’s platform.
