In a world where the most pressing issues are often multifaceted and cannot be addressed by a single field alone, collaboratories provide a platform for people worldwide to pool their expertise, share insights, and co-create new knowledge. By encouraging cross-disciplinary interactions, these spaces facilitate the emergence of fresh perspectives, interdisciplinary research, and groundbreaking discoveries that might not be achievable within traditional departmental boundaries. Columbia initiated the Global Columbia Collaboratory to catalyze innovation, accelerate research progress, and promote a holistic approach to solving real-world problems, ultimately driving advancements that can benefit society. The Global Columbia Collaboratory program is a free, virtual, not-for-credit global learning opportunity for currently enrolled undergraduate students worldwide.
The Nairobi Center has partnered with the Collaboratory to design the Fall 2023 Global Columbia Collaboratory on Flourishing African Cities: Urban Development, Food Systems, and Clean Energy, which will run from September 11th, 2023, to November 20th, 2023. Undergraduate students are encouraged to submit their applications before September 8th, 2023 to participate, connect and cooperate across a global network. During this period, students across the world will learn from sustainability experts, preeminent scientists, and local NGO activist-practitioners through three Global Seminars - open to the public, small group meetings, and a collaborative project as a deliverable. Students will reflect, ideate, and collaborate to learn, discuss, and raise awareness about the strategic work in African cities around urban development, food systems and clean energy.
