Columbia & Harvard Students Connect in Tunis

January 08, 2024

In a collaborative effort with the Tunisia Office, Center for Middle Eastern Studies at Harvard University (CMES Tunis), Columbia Global Centers | Tunis (CGC Tunis) hosted a networking reception that brought together undergraduate and graduate students from both Columbia University and Harvard University, the first of its kind in Tunisia.

This event stood out as a highlight during the visit of nine Columbia students to Tunisia, as part of the Kraft Global Fellowship program. Students from different backgrounds, ranging from international affairs and public health to humanities and social sciences, who happened to be in Tunisia during the month of January as part of two programs run by CMES Tunis and CGC Tunis, mingled in the third floor of Le15 Building, where CGC Tunis is located.

There, in the heart of the European City of Tunis, right next to the old Medina of Tunis, discussions turned around Roman Carthage, migration flows, public and private hospitals, classical and modern architecture, and so on.

The reception offered the 33 students a perfect opportunity to share, learn, and engage. As they return to their respective institutions, the shared experiences, insights gained during the event, and the newly forged friendships will continue to influence their academic journeys.

Columbia Global Centers | Tunis, in encouraging these collaborations, emphasizes its dedication to building connections that enhance understanding and knowledge, fostering unity among students from diverse backgrounds.
