The Global Women on Boards 2023 Program

 The Global Women on Boards programme, designed to equip aspiring and current directors with the skills, knowledge and confidence needed to participate effectively on boards. 

The six-month development programme is a collaborative effort between LeadWomen - Malaysia, The Women on Boards Network Kenya, Columbia Global Centers | Paris and Columbia Global Centers | Nairobi. Applications closed on May 26, 203. The program begun on June 8 and, although most of the program will be delivered virtually, it features a graduation ceremony and board simulations in Paris from November 15-17. Delegates will also be invited to network with facilitators, mentors and invited executives who will provide a greater appreciation of the global outlook and exposure to new markets.

This women-onky programme provides a safe platform for women to openly share experiences, ask questions and learn in a closed, conducive environment. Participants will receive focused development and mentorship, allowing them to understand the required skills and gain practical insights on navigating board dynamics to be effective board directors.

The program is also ideal for those seeking an understanding of directors' duties, roles and responsibilities. It covers the critical elements of corporate governance, essential financial understanding, board's role in strategy and risk. The program also provides a good appreciation of board cultures and dynamics, further complemented by sharing the real experience of an international cohort.

The 2022 program featured the contributions of several Columbia professors, including the following:

• Dr. Patricia Angus of Columbia Business School reviewed and evaluated the assessment questionnaire that assessed the participants' board readiness at the program's start. Dr. Angus also gave a remarkable induction of the program that allowed the participants to understand the expectations and goals for the program;
• Professor Rita McGrath of Columbia Business School also delivered an extraordinary module on strategic thinking when approaching board matters; and
• Dr. Susan Blaustein, of Columbia's School of Professional Studies, delivered a special talk during the graduation ceremony on Sustainability with a focus on women as the social pillar who drive sustainability today.
