A group of 30 Brazilian government workers, recipients of the Espírito Público (“public spirit”) award, has arrived in Chile to learn first-hand about some of the best practices in the country’s public services sector and discuss related issues with public officials.

The Espírito Público award, which aims to recognize and share inspiring trajectories of public service professionals in Brazil, is a project of the Vamos Partnership, formed by the Lemann Foundation, the Humanize Institute and República.org. The partnership seeks to contribute to the strengthening of government workers who can positively impact millions of lives and who strive to contribute to improving Brazil.

The recognition provides visibility to good practices, inspiring trajectories and a new vision of public professionalism in Brazil, and prize recipients are awarded with trips abroad to learn about government systems in other countries. The current cohort of awardees include public service professionals from the areas of education, health, public security, digital government, and people management.

The trip to Chile – organized by República in conjunction with the Columbia Global Centers in Rio and Santiago – has included cultural tours and meetings with officials from Chile’s civil service, health ministry, environment ministry, social development ministry, and park service, as well as from Universidad Católica. Topics addressed include models of education, health, social development and environment, as well as Chile’s public senior management system, public safety and digital government
