Antonio Campaña

Director, Columbia Global Center Santiago

Antonio Campaña has been director of the Columbia Global Center in Santiago, Chile since June 2024.

Campaña has more than 30 years of experience as a professor of economics and leader of globally engaged institutions. He is the former executive director of the Fulbright Commission in Chile, where he served for more than a decade. During his tenure, he developed innovative programs for Chilean grantees, researchers, and scholars in the United States, and fostered strategic partnerships with governmental, academic, and private sector institutions in both Chile and the U.S.

Before joining the Fulbright Commission, Campaña was an advisor in the Office of the Academic Vice-Rector at Universidad Diego Portales in Chile. In that role, he led critical  initiatives to expand the university's global engagement. His career also includes serving as deputy director of the British Council in Chile, director of the Department of Law & Economics at Universidad Diego Portales, and as an economist at the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean in Santiago. Additionally, he was the head of research at ABN AMRO Bank in Chile, where he conducted extensive research on the Chilean and Latin American markets.

Campaña has over 30 years of  experience teaching economics at several Chilean universities, including Universidad de los Andes, Universidad Diego Portales, Universidad de Santiago, Universidad de Chile, and Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. His academic work is complemented by numerous publications on economic theories and practices.

He holds an MA in Economics from Southern Illinois University and a BS in Economics from Southeast Missouri State University. Campaña is fluent in both Spanish and English.
