Engage With Us — Community

event at Reid Hall in the Paris Global Center

Connecting communities globally

Whether you're looking to deepen your understanding of global issues, expand your network, or participate in unique learning opportunities, Columbia Global Centers are a gateway to meaningful engagement and education for all.

Global conversations

Visit any of our Global Centers, and you’ll find them at the center of vital conversations that bridge art, science, social impact, climate change, and more.

In France, you can visit the Paris Global Center to hear discussions on journalism and the challenges of reporting on criminal investigations, including a roundtable focused on covering high-profile cases of sexual violence. Or listen to thought-provoking conversations coming from Paris on the Atelier Podcast. If you are in Turkey, the Istanbul Global Center hosts events that bring the community together to learn and take action, like a series of panel discussions that shared lessons learned in the aftermath of two major earthquakes, Turkey and Syria After the Earthquakes. In Chile? The Santiago Global Center supports public events like the Annual Latin American Cities Conference that connect the local community with leaders from public and private sectors across Latin America to discuss Chile’s future.

Local learning

Centers also host a variety of workshops that bring global issues into local focus, fostering dialogue and impact within the community.

The Nairobi Global Center provides hands-on experience to professionals through workshops, like the one for the East Africa Geo-Health Hub, which focused on environmental and occupational health in the region. The Mumbai Global Center hosted a one-day skills building workshop, Sensitive Topics in Migration and Health Research, aimed at young researchers. The Tunis Center held the American Fringe Cinema series, offering a deep dive into American independent films.

Empowering communities of change

Columbia Global Centers also offers several programs that provide life-changing opportunities for scholars and students from outside Columbia University.

Staying true to our mission to support individuals displaced by conflict and disaster, we offer programs that help people rebuild their lives and careers.

The Columbia University Scholarship for Displaced Students brings students to New York City to complete their education and build a brighter future. For early-career researchers, the Emerging Scholars Fellowship places scholars at Global Centers around the world, offering them academic homes to continue their research and expand their careers. And in Paris, the Displaced Artists Initiative provides a creative home for artists who have been forced to leave their countries.

But our commitment to uplifting communities doesn't stop there. In Brazil, the Columbia Women’s Leadership Network empowers professionals to drive transformative change in their fields. And in China, the Fellowship for Change gives high school students the chance to lead social and environmental projects that create real impact.

We're not just about education — we're about turning knowledge into action and supporting those who need it most. Whether you're a scholar, artist, or community leader, Columbia Global Centers provide the platform for you to grow, connect, and make a lasting difference.
