Dr. Bonnie Dunbar was educated at the University of Colorado, University of Tennessee and professor at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston Texas for twenty years. She came to Kenya as a United States Fulbright Scholar and decided to become a full time resident in Kenya. She has been affiliated with the Institute of Primate Research and is currently on the faculty of the Center for Biomedicine and Bio Information at the University of Nairobi.
She is a founder and treasurer of the African Biomedical Center specializing in women's health in Africa, including HIV/Aids and emerging infectious diseases. She purchased and rebuilt the Karen Blixen Coffee Garden & Cottages which is now an internationally known small luxury hotel in the Karen Suburb outside of Nairobi. Through her successful business and medical contacts she has established numerous contacts at the professional medical level as well as political associations in Kenya.
