In early August, Joshua Furst, adjunct assistant professor of writing, and Alicia Meier, Communications and Global Programs Manager, both from Columbia University’s School of the Arts, travelled to Chile in an exploratory mission to discuss possible joint projects with local authors and universities. Their visit followed a very successful Advanced Creative Writing Workshop held in conjunction with the Rio Center and Instituto Vera Cruz in São Paulo.
The professor was invited to participate in the panel “Variações Sobre um Velho Tema” (Variations on an old theme) together with the writer Joana Gorjão Henriques (Portugal) and the Brazilian anthropologist Julio de Tavares to debate racism, the African diaspora and colonialism.

On May 13th, Columbia Global Centers | Rio de Janeiro promoted the public Master Class “Creating compelling characters in the era of unpredictable changes”, taught by Professor Joe Cacaci at Museu de Arte do Rio (MAR).
Professors William Wadsworth, Administrative Academic Director of the Creative Writing Program at Columbia University’s School of The Arts, and Paulo Henriques Britto, from the Literature Department of Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro talked on the Master Class “Word for word: Creative Writing and Literary Translation”, held at Estação das Letras (Rio de Janeiro) on July 6th.
TV Writing Master Class takes place in São Paulo for the first time after successful editions in Rio.
