The session’s timing is crucial to develop a more robust and comprehensive understanding of cities and climate change that will motivate resilient, net-zero actions. This U20 session will enable participants to identify synergies and innovative urban climate solutions that go beyond what is currently known or practiced. Presently, there are gaps in policy and science, including how to enable action and agency, upscale existing initiatives, and ensure that transformation is equitable. The timing allows for a targeted approach in implementing strategies that prioritize the needs of those most at-risk cities, especially those in the Global South and in Brazil.
Key themes include climate change and cities, bridging the gap between science and policy, climate science and technology, and urban planning. Topics include Rio's Sustainable Corridors and other sustainable development strategies, UCCRN's Urban Design Climate Workshops, and pathways for climate action in cities.
