There are almost as many digital data points as there are stars in the universe. This data helps us monitor our planet, decipher our genetic code, and explore the depths of human psychology.

As algorithms become increasingly adept at accessing our minds, they also gain power to influence it—nudging us to buy a certain product or vote for a particular political candidate.

In this session, co-sponsored by the Santiago Center and the Columbia Business School Association of Chile, Columbia Business School Professor Sandra Matz will offer an insider's perspective on the art and science of psychological targeting. Drawing from her research and consulting work, Matz will reveal how our digital footprints provide insights into the most intimate aspects of our psyche, how they are being used—for better or worse—to shape our behavior, and how we can redesign the data landscape to regain control and power over the information that defines us.
