Project-based carbon credit markets are a critical tool for companies striving to meet net-zero targets. However, despite their potential, the pace of credit issuance has slowed significantly due to growing concerns over integrity and the limitations of voluntary, nonbinding standards in ensuring credible emissions reductions.

To tackle this challenge, the Center on Global Energy Policy (CGEP) at Columbia University SIPA, in collaboration with Columbia Global Center Nairobi and Mumbai, invites you a timely discussion.

Join experts from Kenya, India, and Brazil to explore how national regulatory frameworks can succeed where voluntary standards fall short, and understand how major economies are creating enforceable safeguards to restore market trust and ensure credible emissions reductions.

Panellists:

  • Gautam Jain, Senior Research Scholar, CGEP
  • Luisa Palacios, Adjunct Senior Research Scholar, CGEP
  • Ressa Kombi, Senior Climate Change Officer  at the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Forestry, Kenya
  • Aparna Sharma, Programme Lead of the Carbon Markets Team at the Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW), India
