Strengthening Democracy: D-HUB Fellows Meet in Athens

March 11, 2026

On Jan. 15-16, 2026, D-HUB, a pro-democracy group, in partnership with the Columbia Global Center in Athens and Columbia World Projects, organized a dynamic two-day forum in Athens to bring together activists from around the world working at the front lines of defending democracy and countering anti-democratic populism.

More than 70 participants from countries across the globe came together to discuss their experiences, share insights, and exchange strategies. The meeting focused on the practical implementation of D-HUB’s Anti-Authoritarian Toolkit, a resource documenting successes, challenges, and lessons learned in promoting democratic movements, as well as broader reflections on advancing democratic resilience worldwide.

The conference highlighted a global network of fellows committed to defending democratic values. Through workshops, reflection sessions, and strategic discussions, participants contributed to refining the toolkit and strengthening democratic initiatives internationally.

“This gathering underscores the ongoing commitment of D-Hub and Columbia Global Center Athens to foster knowledge exchange, collaboration, and practical tools for supporting democracy,” Athens Center Director Stefanos Gandolfo said.
