Jaime Carey

Jaime Carey is Senior Partner at Carey and co-head of the firm’s Tax Group, and he participates in the Corporate and M&A Groups in the firm. He served as Managing Partner of the firm from 2000 to 2024. He joined Carey in 1979 and became a partner in 1986.

Jaime is Immediate Past President of the International Bar Association (IBA) and was the first Chilean to have served as president of the organization. He is currently Councilor Emeritus of the Legal Practice Division (LPD) and a member of the Women Lawyers’ Committee Advisory Board. Since 2011, throughout his extensive involvement with the IBA, he has held numerous leadership roles, including Co‐Vice President, Co‐Secretary‐General, member of the Management Board, Chair and Council member of the Legal Practice Division, Chair of the Latin American Regional Forum, Co‐Chair of the Corporate and M&A Section, and member of the Advisory Board of the Law Firm Management Committee.

Jaime serves on boards of directors of various private companies in Chile, including Tecnopapel SA, Valle Nevado, and Evercrisp (Frito Lay Chile). He is a frequent speaker in international forums and conferences.

He received his J.D. from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and specializes in personal and corporate tax planning, local and international tax consulting, project financing, mergers and acquisitions, leasing, and foreign investment transactions.
