As communicated over the past months and most recently by Provost Boyce, Columbia is resuming in-person instruction and activities for the fall semester with a vaccination mandate and public health protocols to ensure a safe return for all in the Columbia community. All courses will be in-person and on campus. The University recognizes, however, that some international students may face visa-related delays that prevent them from arriving at the start of the semester. All such students need to obtain departmental approval for late arrival. Depending on the academic program and each individual situation, a student may be permitted to participate remotely in some courses, or may be asked to defer or take a leave.
For those students that are unable to attend classes on campus, and who have received the appropriate departmental approvals, there is the possibility of providing study and community spaces at a Columbia Global Center or WeWork location in their home cities for part or all of the fall term.
The survey below will gauge the need for such spaces. This survey is not a confirmation that access to spaces will be offered, nor that those individuals completing this survey will be approved for access if it is offered. The survey should only be completed by those who are unable to come to the United States for part or all of the fall term and have already received the appropriate Columbia approvals.
