Call for Papers Now Open: Art and the City Conference

February 23, 2023

A conference on "Art and the City: Urban Space, Art and Social Change" will be held in Amman on June 11-14, 2023. Now in its fifth edition, it is part of a series launched in 2019, and was previously held in Berlin, Tours, and Aarhus. The conference is curated by Dr. Tijen Tunali, an academic, artist, and currently a Mellon fellow at Columbia Global Centers | Amman.

The conference series aims to bring together international scholars from the social sciences and humanities with an interest in topics such as aesthetics and politics of the urban environment, artistic rebellion, aesthetics of urban social movements, and art activism in the urban space. The objective is to garner multifaceted, multi-disciplinary, and multi-geographic perspectives to articulate and promote a richer understanding of the ideologies and practices that arise from the intersection of urban space, art, and social change. Selected papers by the presenters will be published in a journal. Additionally, their work could become part of an exhibition that showcases the images of street art around the world reflecting the conference's theme.

The Call for Papers can be accessed here, as well as on the Conference’s official website: www.artandthecity.sciencesconf.org.

  • Deadline for submission of abstract: March 15
  • Deadline to communicate the evaluation: March 31
  • Deadline for confirmation of participation: April 30
