New Students' Send-Off Reception '23
Amidst the relentless downpour of rain, on July 28, 2023, the Columbia Global Centers | Mumbai transformed into a bustling nexus of aspirations. As the rains continued to pelt, so too did a torrent of prospective students and esteemed alumni, converging from every corner of the city. The occasion? The eagerly anticipated Student Send-Off reception, organized by the Center in partnership with the Columbia Alumni Association of India's Mumbai chapter.
With an impressive turnout of over 90 attendees, the event exuded an atmosphere of anticipation, excitement, and joy, as new students eagerly shared their aspirations and dreams for the upcoming academic year. "I’m looking forward to the multicultural aspect and diversity that Columbia University has to offer to grow in my field," said Tanishka Sidhwani, an incoming graduate student at Teachers College, capturing the sentiment shared by many others present.
The reception provided a unique opportunity for new students to interact with seasoned alumni who had once stood in their shoes. Conversations flowed seamlessly, as alumni generously shared insights and tips to thrive in the academic and social landscape of the university. The interaction between students and alumni inspired a sense of camaraderie. Jay Shah, Access Architects & Alumni GSAPP'09 and Mumbai Chapter leader, expressed his delight at witnessing the enthusiasm of the new students and the warmth extended by the alumni community. Following a warm welcome by the Center, Mr. Shah took the stage and recounted his personal journey as a former student at Columbia’s Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation. During his speech, he shed light on the coursework, student life, and cherished memories he made during his time on campus. Mr. Shah also encouraged new students to seize every opportunity presented to them at the University and in the vibrant city of New York.
As the event drew to a close, students left with a sense of renewed excitement and gratitude, eager to embark on their journey at Columbia University. The event successfully accomplished its mission of building a strong sense of community and support among the students, ensuring they felt well-prepared to embrace their academic endeavors.
