Join the Santiago Center, Universidad Católica’s Center for Local Development (CEDEL) and the Center for Intercultural and Indigenous Studies (CIIR) for this online event.

Vanessa Fiuza, M.A. student in Human Rights at Columbia University and recipient of the Santiago Center’s Field Research Grant, will present findings from her fieldwork on female leadership among Mapuche women. Her research culminated in an anthropological report on the Julián Collinao Indigenous Community in Relinco, in Chile’s Araucanía Region. Natalia Caniguan, researcher at CIIR, will provide commentary on Vanessa’s findings.

The Santiago Center’s Research Grant supports Columbia graduate students in conducting fieldwork at one of Universidad Católica’s Research Centers and Stations across Chile (RCER). The program was established through an agreement between the Global Center and UC’s RCER network, of which CEDEL - whose work has been instrumental in advancing CIIR’s work in the Region - is part.
