Alumni Spotlight: Maisa Rojas Appointed Minister of Environment

The Santiago Center extends its congratulations to Columbia alumna Maisa Rojas on her appointment as Chile's Minister of Environment in the government of President-elect Gabriel Boric.

Rojas, a physicist and climatologist, served as a postdoctoral research scientist at Columbia's International Research Institute for Climate and Society (IRI) from 2000 to 2001. She is currently the director of the Center for Climate Science and Resilience Research (CR2 Chile) and a professor in the Department of Geophysics at Universidad de Chile. Additionally, she was the coordinating lead author of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change's (IPCC) climate report on the current and future state of the world’s climate.
