Presenting Women in Climate Action, a New Event Series in Paris

Presenting the Paris Center's Women and Climate Action series, aiming to explore the crucial role women play in climate adaptation and sustainability.

September 09, 2024

As the world grapples with the escalating effects of climate change, a pressing question arises: How can we harness the full potential of women’s leadership to drive sustainable solutions? What roles do women play in the global fight for climate resilience, and how can their contributions be amplified across communities, policies, and industries worldwide? These questions are at the core of the Women and Climate Action series, set to take place at Reid Hall in Paris from fall 2024 to spring 2025.

Hosted by the Columbia Global Paris Center in partnership with Daughters for Earth, SHE Changes Climate, and Les Impactrices, this series aims to explore the crucial role women play in climate adaptation and sustainability. Through three distinct events, the series will spotlight innovative strategies for tackling climate change, underscoring the importance of gender equality in these efforts. Each event will highlight the achievements of women leading the charge in various regions and sectors, providing a platform for voices that are often underrepresented in global climate discussions.

The first event, scheduled for November 6, 2024, will focus on women’s impact in climate philanthropy. This evening panel and discussion will showcase how the rise of women in philanthropy is accelerating impactful community-based actions that contribute to global climate mitigation efforts.

On March 4, 2025, the second event will feature a discussion led by She Changes Climate, emphasizing climate action in rural French communities. This event will spotlight the network of women leaders in the agricultural sector and explore the intersection of local leadership with policy and diplomacy. We will also celebrate the one-year anniversary of She Changes Climate France.

The final event, presented by Les Impactrices, will highlight the leadership of their network of women advancing local climate initiatives through grassroots projects and policy advocacy in France. This event will be held in the late spring of 2025.

Following the first event in English, subsequent events will be conducted in French.

The Columbia Global Paris Center, dedicated to addressing global issues through research, education, and public engagement, is hosting this series as part of Climate Talks, the public-facing arm of its climate initiatives. This series will connect a general audience with partner organizations like Daughters for Earth, which mobilizes resources to support women-led environmental efforts worldwide; She Changes Climate, which advocates for women’s equal inclusion in climate decision-making; and Les Impactrices, a dynamic collective empowering women from diverse backgrounds to drive ecological transition.

The "Women and Climate Action" series is more than an opportunity to learn from women leading the fight against climate change—it is a call to action, urging us all to recognize and support the vital contributions of women in building a more sustainable world.
