Columbia Global Centers | Mumbai was established in 2010 to serve as a research, education, and knowledge hub for promoting new and informed ways of addressing global challenges. The Center conducts innovative and inter-disciplinary research, designs educational opportunities for students and professionals, and disseminates research to wider publics in academia, government, civil society, and the private sector. By connecting the University’s world-class scholars and students with peers from the region, the Mumbai Center works to deepen knowledge that can transform society.

The Coronavirus pandemic has impacted the entire world, but India in particular has been devastated in recent weeks. The health system is grappling with a shortage of vaccines and treatment resources, making it one of the world's worst-hit countries. As part of a University-wide initiative to support Columbia students who are located outside the United States, Columbia University offers access to spaces to convene, study, collaborate, and benefit from tailored, diverse programming opportunities designed to support students’ remote learning and help them integrate into the broader University community.

The Columbia Global Centers–in Amman, Beijing, Istanbul, Mumbai, Nairobi, Paris, Rio de Janeiro, Santiago, and Tunis–have expanded their capacities to become study centers for students in their regions, and the University has also arranged for dedicated space for its students in Tel Aviv and Athens. In addition, students in another 80+ cities will receive special WeWork all-access passes, which they may use to access any WeWork facility in their city, offering them a comfortable, safe, and enriching environment to study.
