4 Sessions, 40 Companies, and 400+ Students Connect at Our Career Fairs in Fall 2022

September 28, 2022

Fall is one of the best seasons for students to look for internships and full-time job opportunities in China. It’s an opportune time for students and fresh graduates to get a head start on careers by learning more about companies and their requirements and talking directly with employers to get accurate answers and advice.

Much time can be wasted applying for jobs if students are not strategic and well-informed. Aiming to provide an interactive, efficient experience, the Beijing Center brought together more than 40 companies in China and co-hosted two career fairs this fall semester to help students and recent graduates advance their careers.

Over 420 students in total attended the Fall 2022 Finance and Quant Career Fair with Chinese Companies on September 21 and the Fall 2022 Columbia Engineering Virtual China Career Fair from September 26 to September 28. They successfully built connections with around 120 representatives from 40 companies that offered multiple job opportunities, industry insights, and career advice.

Fall 2022 Finance and Quant Career Fair with Chinese Companies

On September 21, students and employer representatives joined the three-hour session of the quant career fair initiated by Izabela Rutkowski, Assistant Director of Career Development and Alumni Relations of the MA in Mathematics of Finance (MAFN) program.

Students and alumni from seven programs——MA in Mathematics of Finance, MA in Statistics, MS in Financial Economics, MS in Accounting and Fundamental Analysis, MS in Marketing Science, MA in Economics, and MA in Quantitative Methods in the Social Sciences at Columbia University Graduate School of Arts and Sciences and Columbia Business School impressed employers with their attitude of being proactive, passion for learning, and thirst for job hunting. Many of them already submitted their resumes and started their online applications.

We have already received so many great comments from employers. "It is great to connect with Columbia students," said the human resources manager from Tencent. According to the campus recruiting manager from Philips, "We are very happy to hear some students share their interests and understanding of our company culture."

"It is wonderful seeing so many students and employers participating in our events," said Ryan Day.

From September 27-29, the three-day career fair for Columbia Engineering's students and alumni featured three three-hour sessions and brought incredible full-time job and internship opportunities offered by 30 leading big firms and rising startups based in China.

Participating employers included: AI technology, consulting, healthcare, finance, IT industries, retailers, and many more.

"I enjoy the breakout sessions that I can have real-time engagement with recruiting managers to learn more about hiring requirements". "I think I am better prepared myself for the 2022 fall recruiting seasons and gain more in-depth information about the AI technologies field". We have received some positive feedback from students that they felt the career fair was beneficial and inspiring and would like to attend more in the future.

Serving as a hub for the Columbia community abroad and at home, the Beijing Center will continue improving the career development program and connecting with schools, departments, as well as local partners, to help students and alumni explore a diverse range of career options and build a meaningful network in China. We are very optimistic about receiving the good news of offer letters in the coming semesters.
