Unveiling Public Health: A Discovery Tour in China

Columbia Global Center Beijing is thrilled to launch an immersive Public Health Study Tour in partnership with the Mailman School of Public Health

Led by Columbia Professor Sen Pei, this transformative five-day journey to Beijing, China, in summer 2025, will enable students to explore groundbreaking health policies, learn from leading Chinese experts, and gain firsthand experience of China's innovative strategies in infectious disease control and environmental health.

Through engaging workshops, academic discussions, and visits to top universities, government agencies, and leading organizations, this program provides exclusive insights into China's health systems, infectious disease management, and cutting-edge environmental health initiatives. By the end of the tour, students will be equipped with specialized tools and fresh perspectives to develop impactful environmental health solutions that can make a difference both locally and globally.

Who Can Apply

This program is exclusively for current students of the Mailman School of Public Health at Columbia University. Applicants should have a keen interest in deepening their understanding of public health initiatives and efforts in China.

 

Eligibility
  • Hold a valid visa covering the entire duration of the program (August 17–21, 2025).
  • Be able to fully participate in all scheduled activities during the program dates.

Important Financial Notes

Participants will be responsible for expenses related to local and international transportation, accommodations, insurance, visa application fees, and other associated costs. We recommend planning accordingly to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience.

Faculty Lead

Sen Pei

Dr. Sen Pei is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Environmental Health Sciences at Mailman School of Public Health, Columbia University. With a background in applied mathematics, network science, and complex systems, he studies the effects of environmental, social, and ecological conditions on infectious diseases using a variety of data sources, including surveillance data, human mobility, climate data, and electronic health records. He develops mathematical models and computational tools to advance surveillance, forecasting, and control of both seasonal and emerging infectious agents. His recent studies focus on respiratory viruses such as influenza and COVID-19 and antimicrobial-resistant pathogens in healthcare systems.
