A report released by the Health Effects Institute (HEI) this year revealed that over 8.1 million deaths worldwide in 2021 were attributable to air pollution, with more than 90% of these deaths linked to PM2.5 pollution. Air pollution has become the second leading risk factor for death.
How have historical catastrophic air pollution events influenced the development of air quality regulation? What are the most commonly used air pollution epidemiology models, and how are they studied and applied? How can the exposure assessment prediction models be better applied in public health impact assessments?
To explore these questions, Columbia Global Center Beijing and the Beijing American Center will jointly host a lecture featuring Mike He, Adjunct Assistant Professor of Sociology at Columbia University. Professor He, as an air pollution epidemiologist, will provide a comprehensive introduction to the historical context, research methodologies, and practical applications of air pollution and public health research.
This event, part of the Beijing Global Center's Scholar-in-Residence program, will offer a valuable platform for experts and scholars to exchange insights on the latest study on air pollution and public health research. Additionally, it will serve as a platform for the public to gain a general understanding of the history and significance of air pollution, encouraging greater support and interest in air pollution regulation.
