Experimental Evidence from Tunisia”, presented findings from a randomized evaluation of the Tunisian government’s Tasdir+ export promotion program. In January 2026, senior students and faculty from Barnard and Columbia—after taking the seminar Carthage and Africa Proconsularis in Fall 2025- came to Tunisia for an intensive, site-based study tour. The trip was designed as an extension of the course itself: students didn’t simply visit ruins; they returned to places they had already inhabited intellectually through texts, scholarship, and archaeological evidence.

Columbia Global announces two unique opportunities for Columbia faculty and displaced scholars to conduct research at one of our Global Centers.

Columbia Global Center Tunis, together with the Columbia Alumni Association (CAA) Chapter in Tunisia, hosted a special meet-up in January in Tunis, bringing together Columbia students, alumni, and faculty members, alongside several family members. 

The event was organized in partnership with Dowit, a Tunis-based impact organization that designs immersive cultural experiences rooted in Tunisia’s living heritage—from guided visits and thematic routes to hands-on workshops that connect visitors with local know-how and craftsmanship.

On January 10, 2026, we took a group of Barnard students where Tunis is at its most Tunis: the Medina—a living city of courtyards, workshops, minarets, and narrow streets that still carry the rhythms of centuries.

On December 4th, the Columbia Global Centers in Tunis and Nairobi, in collaboration with Columbia University Press, hosted William Moseley, DeWitt Wallace Professor of Geography at Macalester College, for a discussion on his latest book, "Decolonizing African Agriculture" (CUP, 2024). The event explored why many agricultural and food policy approaches have failed in Sub-Saharan Africa, with Moseley critiquing the dominance of Western, colonial agricultural science that has been deeply entrenched in power dynamics across the continent.
