What if displacement could unlock global academic networks?

The 2025-26 Columbia Global Emerging Scholars Fellowship is now accepting applications from early-career scholars who hold refugee status or have been forcibly displaced. Through the visionary support of the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, we are transforming academic futures at our Global Centers in Amman, Nairobi, and Santiago.

Ten scholars. Three global cities. One transformative year.

This fellowship does not just provide resources – it catalyzes careers.

Each fellow receives:

  • Hosting, workspace and integration at the Amman, Nairobi or Santiago Columbia Global Centers
  • A stipend
  • Dedicated mentorship from esteemed Columbia faculty
  • A small research/travel fund to support their scholarly endeavors
  • Advanced training in areas such as academic writing
  • Inclusion in an alumni network

Eligibility

Eligible candidates are scholars in the humanities and humanistic social sciences who have been forcibly uprooted from their home countries and respective academic institutions. They could be postdoctoral scholars in the early stages of their careers or Ph.D. candidates who have had their education disrupted. Creative writers, artists, curators, and scholars working on interdisciplinary projects are encouraged to apply.

Think boldly. Turn your next chapter into a global story.
