On July 1, 2025, the Columbia Global Center in Athens, in collaboration with the Columbia Alumni of Greece, organized a send-off reception to welcome the newest students from Greece joining Columbia University this fall. Held at the Tsakos Energy Navigation headquarters in southern Athens, the event brought together incoming students, alumni, and friends of the University, celebrating the start of their Columbia journey.
During June, Columbia students enrolled in the Greek Epigraphy course participated in a unique academic experience through the Epigraphy Seminar Study Trip in Athens, led by Paraskevi Martzavou, Professor in the Department of Classics. On June 12, 2025, we hosted a conversation between Pulitzer Prize–winning author Jhumpa Lahiri and the Columbia Global Center Athens Director Stefanos Gandolfo. Drawing on her well-known books—Interpreter of Maladies, In Other Words, and Translating Myself and Others—Lahiri shared personal insights about how language shapes identity, and how writing can be a powerful way to explore and redefine who we are.
