Atelier Returns for a Second Season With a Community Call-In Episode

September 19, 2025

Atelier returns for its second season with a twist: an episode in the style of an old-fashioned call-in radio show. Faculty and fellows, artists and activists, share messages about what Reid Hall means to them—voices of people who have found refuge and inspiration here, who know the magic of Reid Hall, and who hold this place near and dear to their hearts.

Listen to the episode on Spotify and Apple Podcasts

In this episode, we hear from voices across the Reid Hall community: Columbia University professors in art history, comparative literature, climate, and journalism; former Institute for Ideas and Imagination Fellows working in literature, film, and music; and neighbors—both literal and figurative—like Marie Louise Taylor, great-granddaughter of Helen Rogers Reid, and Christian Mazzalai, guitarist of Phoenix.

In upcoming episodes, we’ll hear from more Columbia faculty and the new class of Fellows, as well as this year’s Displaced Artists in residence

The first season of Atelier highlighted innovative approaches to education, journalism, and cultural preservation, with episodes ranging from music pedagogy inspired by inclusive techniques to the preservation of Ukrainian musical heritage amid conflict.

Scholars and practitioners shared insights into lesbian and queer history, what we can learn from trees, and the fight against police violence in France. Artists and journalists explored boredomfailure, and colonial archives, from documenting post-fire reconstruction at Notre-Dame to translating Le Monde for global audiences.

Season 1 also spotlighted the global impact of the Reid Hall community, featuring discussions on the Institute for Ideas and Imaginationdecades of study abroad, and partners such as the Maison des Femmes

Across 30+ episodes, Season 1 combined historical reflection, contemporary research, and artistic practice to show how the Reid Hall community fosters dialogue, inspiration, and cross-cultural exchange.
