Journalists currently residing in Europe are invited to apply for a residency as part of Reid Hall Residences, jointly supported by the Columbia Paris Global Center and the Institute for Ideas and Imagination. The 2026-2027 residency is open to journalists who have been forced to leave their home countries due to war, natural disaster, political oppression, or similar extreme circumstances.
It includes an annual stipend of €40,000 net (paid in monthly installments), administrative support, and a small office space at Reid Hall, from September 2026 to June 2027. The residency offers time and space to one journalist working on a long-term project. The selected journalist will also be invited to contribute to activities at Reid Hall, such as public lectures, podcasts, workshops, or conferences. Their residence will take place alongside displaced artists at Reid Hall supported by the PAUSE program and partner French universities.
Reid Hall is home to the Columbia Paris Global Center, the Institute for Ideas and Imagination, the Columbia Undergraduate Programs, and Columbia’s Master in History and Literature program. Located in the heart of Montparnasse, it partners with French and European institutions to engage students, faculty, alumni, and the general public across borders and disciplines. To apply, candidates should complete the application form and submit a short CV, two recent work samples (such as published articles or multimedia pieces), and a project proposal (1 to 3 pages) outlining the work they intend to pursue during the residency.
Please note that applicants must reside in Europe and are responsible for submitting a valid passport and visa that covers the entire period of the residency.
The deadline for 2026 – 2027 applications is April 30, 2026. Finalists will be contacted for an interview.
