The Columbia Global Center Santiago introduces a research grant program for Columbia graduate students to pursue research in Chile at Universidad Católica’s (UC) uniquely located Field Stations.
The Student Travel Awards for Field Station Research in Chile offer masters and PhD students from any Columbia school or affiliate an opportunity for hands-on research experiences in Chile. The Santiago Center will grant two travel awards of up to US $10,000 each to cover travel expenses, station fees, and living costs, with the aim of fostering academic exploration and cross-cultural exchange.
Applicants are urged to explore research opportunities at one of three UC Field Stations: Coastal Marine Research Station (Las Cruces), Local Development, Education, and Interculturality Center (Villarrica), and Cape Horn International Center (Puerto Williams).
At the Coastal Marine Research Station, students can delve into marine ecology, sustainable management, conservation, oceanography, and other marine sciences. Meanwhile, the Local Development, Education, and Interculturality Center offer interdisciplinary research opportunities focused on the development of the south-central area of Chile around sustainability of social-ecological systems, sustainable tourism, territorial planning, and education for sustainability. The Cape Horn International Center provides a unique biocultural approach to studying climate change and monitoring how subantarctic ecosystems respond to it.
