At a critical time for the planet, Comunitas has partnered with Climate Hub Rio, the climate innovation hub of Columbia Global Center Rio de Janeiro, to release two new publications: "Energy Challenges and the Role of Brazilian Public Management" and "From Climate Change to Energy Decarbonization" (both in Portuguese). These materials are designed to empower public managers to become agents of change in creating a more sustainable and resilient energy future.
These publications originated from the "Climate Change and Energy" training, which took place between January and February of this year. The course, a result of the partnership between the aforementioned organizations, aimed to provide public managers with an understanding of climate change concepts, analyze Brazil's energy landscape, and explore possibilities for transitioning to alternative energy sources. At the conclusion of the course, students submitted final papers.
Dayane Reis, Director of Communication, Knowledge, and Innovation at Comunitas, stated, "These new publications are part of Comunitas' efforts to support public management in addressing the complex challenge of climate change. The works aim to enhance the public sector's capacity to tackle this issue and promote the development of a greener and more sustainable future for all."
From Climate Change to Energy Decarbonization
"From Climate Change to Energy Decarbonization" presents content from the "Climate Change and Energy" training, covering the origins and impacts of climate change, available energy sources, and technologies for reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The publication includes knowledge validated by environmental and climate specialists from the Climate Hub at Columbia Global Centers in Rio de Janeiro and emphasizes the importance of government engagement in energy decarbonization, the use of renewable energy sources, and the promotion of energy efficiency. The work also provides practical examples of cities that have effectively implemented public policies to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions.
Energy Challenges and the Role of Brazilian Public Management
"Energy Challenges and the Role of Brazilian Public Management" underscores the importance of aligning public management with climate science to develop data-driven and scientifically evidenced public adaptation policies, led by trained officials. The publication features 12 articles from the training participants, highlighting perspectives, best practices, and paths to decarbonization. Each chapter explores three contextual solutions related to specific climate issues, enabling other managers to develop action plans tailored to their cities' realities, promote the adoption of more sustainable practices, and facilitate the transition to a greener energy future.
