Treasures from Author Geneviève Fabre’s Personal Library at Reid Hall

October 24, 2024

Reid Hall has recently been enriched by a remarkable donation of books from the personal library of Geneviève Fabre, made by her son Pierre Fabre. A distinguished scholar, Professor Fabre served at the University of Paris Diderot (Paris VII) and was the Director of the African-American and Diasporas Studies Program. Her influential works include Parcours Identitaires (1983) and Le Théâtre Noir aux États-Unis (1982), along with her editorial contributions to landmark publications such as Temples for Tomorrow: Looking Back at the Harlem Renaissance (2001).

Fabre’s collection, rich with resources on African-American culture, diasporas, and ethnic studies, will enhance Reid Hall's academic community. This generous donation was facilitated by Professor Arlette Frund (University of Tours), who connected Pierre Fabre with Brunhilde Biebuyck, director of Reid Hall and of the Columbia Global Paris Center. We extend our deepest gratitude to Pierre Fabre and to Professor Frund for making this valuable gift available to our scholars and students.
