Beijing Global Center Celebrates Giving Day Event with Shanghai Alumni
This event fostered alumni connections and strategic initiatives through the active participation of the Beijing Center.
On September 22, 2024, Columbia Global Center Beijing joined the Columbia Alumni Association (CAA) of Shanghai for its inaugural Giving Day event, celebrating the university's 270-year legacy, and envisioning the boundless future possibilities of the Columbia Shanghai community.

Opening Remarks

The event began with an inspiring speech by Mr. Zhipeng Sun, President of the CAA Shanghai. He reflected on the journey of Chinese students at Columbia, highlighting their contributions and achievements. Mr. Sun also introduced the upcoming Giving Day activities and proudly announced the establishment of a scholarship named in honor of the CAA Shanghai to support future students and scholars.
Columbia Global Presentation

Ms. Helena Xiao, Deputy Director of the Columbia Global Center Beijing, delivered an engaging presentation about Columbia Global and its vision, as well as its impactful initiatives. She emphasized Columbia Global's endeavors to advance knowledge and foster global engagement, particularly by connecting with local alumni communities across China. She encouraged alumni to play an active role in strengthening and enriching these communities’ growth and prosperity. Her presentation inspired alumni to envision their roles in Columbia’s global mission and explore new opportunities for involvement.
Keynote Address

The keynote address was delivered by senior alumna Ms. Edith Shih, Executive Director of CK Hutchison Holdings. Ms. Shih shared her remarkable journey in both education and law, underscoring her dedication to alumni volunteer work. She highlighted several scholarships she helped establish, including the first one set up in 1989 under her leadership by the CAA Hong Kong and recent scholarships for Teachers College and Columbia Engineering.
Dean's Welcome

Dean Carlos Alonso of Columbia’s Graduate School of Arts and Sciences (GSAS) extended a warm welcome to the alumni, expressing his deep appreciation for their continued support and engagement. His address included exciting updates about GSAS, emphasizing the school's commitment to academic excellence and innovation.
Alumni Contributions and Interactive Sessions
The event was further enriched by speeches from senior alumni from SIPA, the Business School, the Law School, GSAS, and the Engineering School. They facilitated lively discussions and distributed special gifts from the schools.
