The globalization of a country's film industry is crucial for its development, cultural confidence, and international impact. Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan's kung fu films brought Chinese cinema onto the international stage and laid the foundation for some present-day Chinese films to travel the world. Despite these achievements, there is still a mismatch between the global influence of Chinese cinema and China's international status.
Columbia Global Center Beijing cordially invites you to a panel discussion featuring Ty Lawson, the Joan Konner Visiting Professor of Journalism at Columbia Journalism School, as well as accomplished industry professionals from China.
This event, part of the Beijing Global Center's Scholar-in-Residence program, aims to explore the critical issue of effectively presenting China's social culture through cinema to a global audience.
Panelists will discuss the positioning and development strategies of Chinese films in the international market, the opportunities and challenges of Sino-foreign co-productions, and examine the cultural discount issues faced by exporting Chinese films.
