Public Health, Climate, Geopolitics and Energy

Climate change stands as one of the most critical global challenges of our time, requiring collaborative efforts from governments, universities, businesses, civil societies, and citizens alike. With Columbia University's deep commitment to climate response and Türkiye's growing focus on this urgent issue, Columbia Global Center Istanbul has made public health and climate key programmatic priorities. The COVID-19 pandemic has further heightened awareness in Türkiye and the broader region of the interconnectedness of local, regional, and global health issues.

There is immense potential for joint research and collaboration between Columbia and local partners to address the challenges posed by climate change and public health. Given its strategic location between the Middle East and Europe, Türkiye plays a pivotal role in regional geopolitics and energy politics. As an energy hub in Eurasia, Türkiye’s relationships with its neighbors, amidst ongoing political, economic, and military conflicts, significantly influence its status. Columbia Global Center Istanbul seeks to foster a collaborative research environment to deepen understanding of these dynamics, particularly the complexities of energy politics and transportation routes in Eurasia.
