ABOUT THE CLIMATE HUB | RIO PANELS
RIO: GLOBAL ACTOR

Rio de Janeiro is a global city with a strong influence on the construction of a climate policy and the fight against international and national poverty. Both the creation of Agenda 21, the ratification of an international commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and the Declaration "The Future We Want" reinforce the city's position in leading impactful public policies on present and future society. The City's commitment to the sustainable development agenda is also evident in the adoption of municipal climate legislation and in the emphasis on policies that seek to eradicate poverty. Furthermore, the City has always played a relevant role in multilateral organizations and forums, strengthening the urban climate agenda as an instrument for inclusive and sustainable growth.

On November 24, at 3:30 p.m. (Brasília time), Columbia Climate School professor Kevin Funk will participate in this panel. Our climate program manager, Camila Pontual, will be the moderator.

CLIMATE YOUTH

Created by the UN General Assembly more than 20 years ago, World Youth Day is celebrated on August 12. Symbolically, the date demonstrates how crucial the participation of young people is in debates about planning, decision-making, execution, and evaluation of policies in different spheres. At an international level, this importance has been reflected in forums promoted by the United Nations on environmental issues, such as the Conferences of the Parties on Climate and Biodiversity, which have sought to ensure greater diversity in generational, regional, ethnic-racial, and gender terms.

On November 25, Eduarda Zoghbi, a Columbia University alumna, and Laryssa Nunes, our program assistant, will participate in the discussion about climate youth at 10 a.m. (Brasília time).
