October 07, 2019

Alex Godoy, Director of Universidad del Desarrollo’s Sustainability Research and Strategic Resource Management Center (CiSGER) as well as research associate at Columbia’s Earth Engineering Center, co-chaired the Responsible Consumption and Production session at the International Conference on Sustainable Development (ICSD), held end-September at Columbia University in New York.

The sustainability expert also participated in other sessions and side meetings at the United Nations. Further, while on Campus, Godoy met with Columbia Water Center Director Upmanu Lall. “We’ve worked together on water issues for the last three years, researching issues such as water in the mining sector, and we are advancing on projects for agriculture and mining in Chile regarding water, optimization and assignment of water resources, and food security,” he says.

Last year Godoy gave a series of presentations regarding environmental stewardship to students, teachers, municipal authorities and academics in northern Chile’s rural Elqui Valley in the context of the half-way mark of the two-year English program for economically disadvantaged youth, We Learn Access.
