Fare thee well, Judas tree

July 08, 2021

After nearly two hundred years, Reid Hall’s stately Judas tree was felled by the weight of her own branches. An imposingly beautiful natural presence, she inspired awe and often creativity in all who passed through our iconic gates to rest in her shade.

She served as a bridge between Reid Hall’s past and present.

Having gracefully carried generations through periods of tumult and transition, in parting, she now reminds us that we, too, have seasons of sorts – periods of blossoming, times of slumber, and an unceasing need to adapt.

Here, we honor what was and look toward a future of growth and transformation.

  • Trees are sanctuaries. Whoever knows how to speak to them, whoever knows how to listen to them, can learn the truth. They do not preach learning and precepts, they preach, undeterred by particulars, the ancient law of life.
