In January 2018, Tonda Hughes, Henrik H. Bendixin Professor of International Nursing and Director of Global Health Research in the School of Nursing, traveled to Santiago to meet with colleagues at the School of Nursing at Universidad Católica de Chile (UC). Both Columbia Nursing and the School of Nursing at UC are World Health Organization Collaborating Centers in Nursing and Midwifery. Hughes and Lilian Ferrer Director of International Affairs at UC, met with leading Chilean sexual and gender minority health researchers and with the staff at the Santiago Global Center to discuss plans for a research collaboration using data from the most recent National Health Survey (Encuesta Nacional de Salud, ENS) to better understand the health needs of the sexual and gender minority population in Chile.
