Top Business School Faculty Members Participate in Workshop on Dynamic Pricing

December 15, 2017

In mid-December, Universidad de Chile’s School of Engineering hosted a workshop in Santiago to discuss the latest questions and methods arising in dynamic pricing decisions, both from a theoretical and applied perspective. Two Columbia faculty members participated in this top-notch event: Omar Besbes, Philip H. Geier Jr. Associate Professor of Business, Decision, Risk, and Operations, and Assaf Zeevi, Kravis Professor of Business Decision, Risk, and Operations.

The multidisciplinary academic and professional backgrounds of the workshop’s participants was key to its success since it included economists working on issues related to dynamic mechanism design; computer scientists focusing on problems related to algorithmic pricing; and researchers from operations research working on revenue management.

The workshop featured three short courses of two hours each by experts in each of the three fields and a number of short talks delivered by all participants. A second but not less important goal of the meeting was to foster cross-field collaborations among faculty members from Universidad de Chile and Columbia University. Other key participants included experts from London School of Economics and Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin.
