Türkiye’nin yanı sıra dünyanın pek çok ülkesinde artış gösteren ifade özgürlüğü ihlallerine dair geçtiğimiz hafta Studio X’te gerçekleşen Çatışmalı Alanlarda Sanatsal İfade panelinin konuklarından biri de eski Uluslararası PEN Direktörü Sara Whyatt oldu.

Columbia Global Centers Istanbul, İsveç Konsolosluğu ve DEPO işbirliğiyle sanatta sansür konusunu ulus ötesi perspektifte tartışmak amacıyla önceki akşam ‘Tartışmalı Alanlarda Sanatsal İfade’ isimli bir panel düzenledi.

Columbia Global Centers | Istanbul and the Consulate General of Sweden, in collaboration with DEPO is organizing a panel with international experts to discuss current obstacles to artistic freedom of expression, different modalities of censorship, and existing and possible forms of struggles against rights violations in a comparative perspective.

Sabancı Üniversitesi Onursal Başkanı Merhum Sakıp Sabancı'nın yenilikçi ve girişimci vizyonu doğrultusunda, Sakıp Sabancı Ailesi ve Sabancı Üniversitesi, Türkiye için bir ilki gerçekleştiriyor ve  Columbia Üniversitesi’nde Sakıp Sabancı Kürsüsü ve Sakıp Sabancı Türkiye Çalışmaları Merkezi kuruluyor.

The Blue Voyagers exhibit opened with a splash April 15 in Istanbul—following a month-long run in Paris at Columbia Global Centers | Europe—and featured a reception, panel discussion and extensive coverage in the Turkish press. The exhibition will include a concert with Standard à la Turc on May 13 at Sismanoglio Megaro at 8 p.m.

The Office of the University Chaplain’s Kraft Global Fellows Program is an initiative of the Kraft Family Fund for Intercultural and Interfaith Awareness. At designated academic breaks, the Kraft Global Fellows Program will support up to five students who have a clear outlined research proposal to travel to one of the Columbia Global Centers as a team to conduct research for a particular set of questions or inquiries. Generally, Chaplain Davis will serve as Program Director and will be present for some portion of the time.

Columbia University's School of the Arts Film Program Chair and Professor Ira Deutchman enjoyed connecting with Turkey’s up-and-coming film scene when he visited Istanbul from March 19 to 22.

Architect Rajeev Thakker will present Columbia University’s Studio-X project in Mumbai, which focuses on creating a collaborative platform for architects, artists, planners, developers, activists to engage in research, exhibitions, debates and various other processes with regard to the future of cities. Architects Jennifer Broutin Farah and Kamal Farah will present their current research and discuss strategies for cities as adaptive technologies.

Columbia Global Centers | Turkey and the European Stability Initiative held a roundtable discussion June 6 on policy options regarding visa liberalization for Turkey, featuring Gerald Knaus (at right), chairman of the European Stability Initiative (ESI), who will present ESI’s more recent report, entitled, "Cutting the Turkey-EU Visa Knot: How Turks can travel freely to Europe." 

Diana Taylor, NYU professor of Performance Studies and Spanish, gave a lecture titled "The Politics of Passion" at Columbia Global Centers | Turkey on May 23.

Columbia Global Centers | Turkey’s conference on the "Future of the Liberal Order’" took place on May 22 and 23 in cooperation with the Istanbul Policy Center at Sabanci University and the Transatlantic Academy of the German Marshall Fund.
