Professor Kartik Chandran (Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science) and professor José Luis Vallejo (School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation) were guest speakers at major events during the week.

Open Innovation Day brings students from Columbia University and from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro to present prototypes of innovative solutions for the challenges faced by big cities. 

Another Design Challenge was launched in the scope of the Columbia Innovation Hub in collaboration with the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ).

 Columbia Engineering and Columbia Global Centers | Rio de Janeiro  jointly launched a design challenge on February 15th focused around bringing innovative engineering, sensing technologies, Internet-of-Things, and big data analytics to the multi-faceted challenges of smart cities. 

Columbia Global Centers | Rio de Janeiro Director and the mayor of Rio, Eduardo Paes, were joined by two Columbia deans and the provost at a ceremony on April 16th to sign the agreement for creating the Rio Columbia Innovation Hub. 

Since 2012, the Lemann Foundation has been supporting the Science without Borders (SWB) program at partner universities: Columbia, Harvard, Stanford, Yale, Illinois (Urbana-Champaign) and UCLA.

The ceremony took place at the Guanabara Palace, home of the governor of Rio de Janeiro state, where President Lee C. Bollinger launched the eighth global center of the network exactly a year ago.

Columbia University has announced the second Request for Proposals for the President’s Global Innovation Fund.  

President Lee C. Bollinger has announced plans to provide grants to faculty members to leverage and engage Columbia’s Global Center network.
