CGC Tunis and Tunisia88: Fostering Progress for Tunisian Youth

December 15, 2023

On December 15th, CGC Tunis, in partnership with Columbia Alumni Association Tunisia, hosted the Annual Partners Meeting for the Tunisia88 program, a transformative initiative that empowers 590 student-led clubs in Tunisian high schools.

Often a rare sight in Tunisian high schools, these clubs follow an annual cycle of activities. This includes comprehensive leadership training for social cohesion and creativity training, enabling them to compose their own songs with unique lyrics, melodies, messages, and videos. Beyond honing their musical skills, these clubs actively create and present their own musical events, making a positive impact on their communities. The program, along with all concerts, is presented with the dual belief that music cultivates respect for differences and that artists can indeed be global citizens.

At the core of the event was Dr. Erina Iwasaki, a Columbia University alumna and educational consultant for Tunisia88/88 International. Dr. Iwasaki played a crucial role by introducing a research proposal that seeks to assess how Tunisia88 impacts Tunisian students' socioemotional skills, academic achievements, and life paths.

Hosting Tunisia88 reinforces our commitment to Tunisian youth and Columbia alumni. As we reflect on past initiatives, notably a youth-led advocacy project supported by the President’s Global Innovation Fund, our focus on promoting global citizenship, responsibility, and cooperation among undergraduate students remains unwavering.

Moving forward, CGC Tunis will persist in advancing transformative education, community development, and global citizenship for a more interconnected and empowered future.
