On January 8th, Du Family Professor of Chinese Culture, Professor Wei Shang from Columbia University's Department of East Asia Languages and Cultures, invited by Dushu Journal, joined with nine local scholars and twenty Ph.D candidates from Tsinghua University, had a seminar on "Vernacularization of the Chinese Language and the Establishment of Nation-State".

The seminar was organized by Dushu Journal, and co-hosted by Columbia Global Centers | Beijing and Tsinghua University. As part of Professor Shang's tour to China, this event is supported by the Huang & Lin Foundation of Columbia University's Chinese Literature and Culture Center.
