An Immersive Parent-Child Exhibition Co-hosted by the Beijing Center Sparks Tech and Art Education Journey for 20,000+ Children

July 10, 2023

"What seeds of goodness do you want to plant in the world and how do you plan to water them with action, allowing them to grow?"

On July 10th, the "One Tree, One World" immersive parent-child exhibition, jointly created by artists from multiple countries and children, opened at the China Millennium Monument in Beijing. Through immersive and interactive experiences, the collection guides children and their parents in exploring together, as they gain insights into the growth process of a tree and explore their own life experiences.

Curated by the ANOBO World Education team and co-organized by the Columbia Global Centers | Beijing, the ANOBO International Children's Tech and Art Traveling Exhibition is simultaneously held in three landmark venues in Beijing and Guangzhou. The exhibition is part of the Beijing Center's educational thematic program, aiming to showcase theory innovation and best practices in art education for children advocated by Columbia University's Teachers College and other top-ranking art institutes.

This year's exhibition, with the design theme of "perception, exploration, communication, vision, and action", redefines the "parent-child experience" through immersive and multidimensional creative experiences. It continued the success of the "One World" theme exhibition in 2021 and the "One Drop of Water, One World" theme exhibition in 2022. It is a social innovation that actively promotes global competency education for children.

Since 2017, the exhibition has made a significant impact, promoting the development of global competence skills for over 20,000 children and primary school students who have participated as curators, artists, storytellers, and global citizens.

The venue, filled with a sense of technology and interactivity, effectively engages attendees through digital interaction and artificial intelligence technology. This year, internationally acclaimed artists, including Chinese contemporary artist Xu Bing (HON'10) and Icelandic-Danish artist Olafur Eliasson, joined the exhibition to co-create with children.

Lan Yang (SIPA '96), Vice Chairman of the China Charity Federation, Chairman of the Sun Future Art Education Foundation, and the Beijing Center's advisory board member, expressed excitement about the exhibition's influence.

Sun Future Art Education Foundation, in collaboration with the Education Bureau of Chengbei District, Xining City, Qinghai Province, has organized the "Enlightenment of Love" Campus Art Education National Demonstration Project in Chengbei District, Xining City. Hundreds of teachers and students from eight schools attended this exhibition. Despite coming from remote areas, their imagination, creativity, and expressive abilities deeply touched each audience.

The improved project-based curriculum design, the development of exhibition teaching aids, and the creation of immersive and scene-based teaching experiences provide interactive guidance for children and offer educational philosophical guidance for parents. This creates a warm parent-child interactive experience and an immersive teaching experience full of fun.

While Yan was a student at Teachers College, she founded No-Boundaries Committee and since then she aims to create an international education platform to cultivate future generations to become socially responsible through art education programs.

Yan highlighted the significance of the exhibition in helping children reflect on their relationship with society, nature, and the world, and develop their core competencies.

Helena Xiao

We are currently in a rapidly developing and diverse society. The importance of cultivating children's diverse thinking and creative abilities is becoming a consensus, and the two most important means are technology and art. The intersection of technology and art inspires creative sparks in each other. They are essential tools for stimulating children's understanding and creativity in science and art.

Helena Xiao, Deputy Director of Columbia Global Centers | Beijing

Xiao looks forward to collaborating with experts and professional institutions to further advance children's art and science education. It would allow the elaborately developed educational resources to reach a wider audience, increasing their influence and effectiveness.
