Positioning African Communities for a Better Future

Over the past year, we collaborated with Columbia faculty, students, and regional institutions on meaningful research projects and conferences. These initiatives were thoughtfully designed to explore some of the most pressing challenges of our time, with a focus on climate resilience, urban sustainability, and conflict resolution. Together, we sought to address important questions in these fields, such as:

• How can sustainable coastal management protect Kenyan communities from climate change impacts?
• How can promoting natural, local foods and secure energy solutions drive sustainable urban growth in Africa?
• Why do conflicts arise during election periods in Kenya, and what are the best practices for addressing these conflicts' symptoms and root causes?
